Idu Igariwey Hosts 2nd Okpudo Annual Lecture Series

Hon. Iduma Igariwey yesterday hosted the 2022 Okpudo Annual Lecture Series to mark the climax of the celebration of the New Yam festival and Ikeji of Afikpo and Edda, Ebonyi state.

Chief Igariwey who represents Afikpo North and Afikpo South at the National Assembly instituted the lecture series last year to highlight and cement the bond existing between Afikpo and Edda people by showcasing the similarities and uniqueness of their cultures.

The theme of this year’s lecture was “Aho Je Ngeje” The Nexus of Language, Culture and Dynamics in Iriji Afikpo And Edda Festivals. The keynote speaker, Professor Ngozi Ugo Emeka-Nwobia highlighted the similarities that exist in the cultures of Afikpo and Edda and noted that the two prominent communities in Ebonyi state share the same culture and worldview.

IDU IGARIWEY DELIVERING HIS GOODWILL MESSAGE

This year’s Okpudo lecture series was marked with a book launch authored by a trio- Arua Oko, Ikenna Unya and Idu Igariwey-distinguished historians. Titled The Bond: A Study of Intergroup Relations Between Afikpo and Edda, the reviewer, Dr Joseph Chukwu of the Department of Mass Communication, Alex Ekwueme Federal University (FUNAI) commended the book and said it was an in-depth study on the cultural and historical bond that exists between Afikpo and Edda communities. He paid tribute to the lawmaker for sponsoring the research work and noted that the book would form a part of his lasting legacy as a seasoned and experienced legislator. In his closing remarks, Dr Mark Abani paid tribute to the womenfolk for their hardwork and commended Igariwey  for bringing his constituency together to foster peace and unity through the Okpudo Lecture Series.

The event which was second in the series was well attended, drawing politicians, captains of industries, academics and politicians  from far and near. One speaker after another extolled the qualities of Chief Idu Igariwey and commended him for the initiative. The mammoth crowd and quality of dignitaries that graced the event was a testimony to the popularity and acceptance of the law maker.
