USAID State2State Tasks Information Officers On Improved Service Delivery

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) State2State, has urged information officers of Ebonyi state Information ministry to enhance service delivery through the Governance and Public Fnancial Management (PFM) reforms.

The State2State Communication Specialist, Nneka Egbuna gave the charge in Abakaliki during a one-day workshop it organised for information officers on Governance and Public Financial Management (PFM) communication.

Egbuna challenged the information officers to improve governance through effective information dissemination in key sectors of health, education among others.

“You should properly propagate governmental policies and programmes to promote transparency and accountability.

“This will also ensure a two-way communication between government and the citizens.

“Facilitating feedback through two-way free flow of information guarantees active participation of the citizens in governance,”

She emphasised that such information flow among various stakeholders foster public trust in governance and gain support for government programmes and policies.

The State2State Team Lead for Ebonyi, Dr Sam Onyia in his remarks thanked the Ebonyi government for its commitment to PFM and governance reform in the state.

Onyia while highlighting the key PFM areas being supported by State2State, enjoined participants to be more in-depth and accurate in reporting such interventions in their proper perspective.

The Director of Information in the ministry, Mr Anya Egwu applauded the efforts of USAID State2State in enhancing the knowledge of information offivers for increased productivity.

“We would take the newly acquired knowledge to our various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDA)s and Local Government Areas (LGAs).

The workshop was attended by information officers from different MDAs and LGAs, trained on audience centered communication through the use of the inclusive approach.

The workshop developed an action plan to address challenges hindering effective communication and public participation in budget, public procurement, debt
management, among others.
