History was made Saturday with the inauguration of Enugu Synod of the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria.

The new Synod comprising Enugu, Enugu North, Nsukka and Ezzeagu Presbyteries, is one of the three Synods created out of the former East Central Synod which covered Ebonyi, Enugu and Anambra States.

Following a new policy of the Church, Ebonyi, Enugu and Anambra were recognized as Synods making the East Central Synod now defunct.

Inaugurating the Enugu Synod at the Saint Andrews Cathedral Amokwe street Uwani Enugu, the Prelate and Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, His Eminence Ekpenyong Akpanika, PhD, prayed: “Gracious Father, we commit the newly created Synod into thy hands. Grant that they may not neglect to worship You, but may find themselves encouraging one another to love and good deeds.

“May they remember the example of Your Son who faithfully entered Your house of prayer. May it be, that these Your children will find in the new Synod a refuge in time of trouble, instruction for growth in Christian life and opportunities to serve You as they serve one another.”

In a homily earlier, the Principal Clerk of the Church,  Most Rev Prof Miracle Ajah, pointed out that challenges were inevitable in life and advised Christians to be ready to face them if they must advance in life.
Most Reverend Ajah noted that the country is undergoing many challenges in it’s match to Nationhood and observed that Nigerians needed to trust in God, cooperate with one another and overcome fear for the growth of the country.

The Moderator of the new Synod, Most Reverend Prof Ezichi Ituma spoke on his vision for the new Synod, saying he would work assiduously for the planting of Presbyterian Churches in all Local Government Areas of Enugu State.

The inauguration also featured presentation of documents and recognition of officers and leaders of Church Arms in the Synod.

The Archbishop, Enugu Ecclesiastical Province, Church of Nigeria Anglican communion, Most Reverend Emmanuel Chukwuma and the Methodist Archbishop of Enugu Archdiocese, Most Reverend Christopher Edeh, were among other Church leaders that graced the occasion.
