The Director-General (D-G) of Bulgarian News Agency (BTA), Mr Kiril Valchev, has urged Nigerian Journalists to continue uphold the ethics of objective and truthful reportage in the discharge of their vocational/ professional duty.
The D-G gave the advice when he featured on Forum, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) flagship interview programme, in the agency’s Headquarters in Abuja. “My advice to Nigeria journalists is to say the truth without evaluation; just saw what happened and who made it happen using the 5ws and H and it will be enough. Saying the truth is very important.”
According to him, being objective is not only a common challenge in Africa alone, but one that the world at large was contending with.
“Actually it is not only Africa’s challenge; we have to learn in this world how to be different in the kind of media content to disseminate because you can see the lie. It is actually free everywhere in social media, so we have to do something to make the truth real and create more access to the truth and this is for media all over the world.
“The fact that Nigeria is the economy number one in Africa and its culture is number in West Africa; Nigeria also has a lot of resources like gas, petrol and with a large population. Although our major reason to partner is the bilateral relations. I saw Nigeria’s Foreign Ministry, Central Bank and the national theater, Bulgaria built the buildings; I also met Nigeria students who studied in Bulgaria and they speak our language.
“So, we have a lot of reasons to work together,” Valchev said. (NAN)
