The Old Students Association of Abakaliki High School, formerly Presco College, are rolling out the drums this weekend to celebrate the 60th anniversary of their Alma Mater and the 4th National Convention of the Presco Old Students Association, POSA.
The event, scheduled to start on Friday, will take place at Osborne La Palm Hotel and Resort, Abakaliki.

A programme of events released by the Engr George Ugwu – led Central Planning Committee, indicates that on arrival on Friday, the old students will, at 5.00pm, file out against present students of the school in a football match at the present site of the School, in the Mile 50 Area of the city. The day’s event will be rounded of with The President’s Night, an informal outdoor interaction session.
The main event, which will be on Saturday at Osborne Hotel, and will feature an anniversary lecture by an erudite old student, Professor Sunday Agwu, Dean, School of Post Graduate Studies, Ebonyi State University, presentation of awards, cutting of the anniversary cake, election of new officers and a gala nite.

According to the programme, the activities will be rounded off on Sunday with a Thanksgiving Service at St Peter’s Cathedral, Presbyterian Church of Nigeria, Kpirikpiri and a visit to some projects executed by the Ebonyi State Government.

Speaking on the programme, the Chairman of the CPC, Engr George Ugwu, encouraged all old students of the school to attend the historic event.
He gave an assurance that adequate arrangements had been made for the comfort of everyone and for a successful anniversary.

In his remarks, the founding President of the Association, Elder Jonathan B. Nonyelu said the event would afford the old students an opportunity to appraise the journey of the school so far and take necessary measures to fill any gaps.
Elder Nonyelu said the old students would renovate some buildings in the school as part of efforts to address the infrastructural decay begging for attention in the school.
He regretted that Presco, once the pride of the people, which has produced great and successful men and women, in and out of government, is now a shadow of its former self due to neglect.
Personalities expected at the event include Governor David Nweze Umahi of Ebonyi State, Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Prof Ivara Ejemot Esu, OFR, his counterpart in Ebonyi State, Dr Eric Kelechi Igwe (both old students), the Chairman of the Association’s Board of Trustees, General Obi Abel Umahi (Rtd) and other distinguished old students in Nigeria and in the Diaspora.
