The lady, who claimed to be a Reverend Sister has been arraigned before a Port Harcourt Magistrate Court for murder and trafficking in persons.

Maureen Wechieonwu was arrested by the Police four weeks ago and paraded with 15 children in her custody.

She is standing trial on a 42-count charge bordering on murder and child trafficking.

According to the prosecution, Wechieonwu, is operating an illegal orphanage home in Aluu community in Obio/Akpor Local Council of Rivers State.

When the matter was mentioned, the Chief Magistrate, Menenen Poromon, said the court lacked jurisdiction to entertain count one, which bordered on murder.
He urged the prosecution team to separate the charges and referred it to the Director of public protection (DPP) for investigation.
Magistrate Poromon ordered that the suspect be remanded in Correctional Center custody and adjourned the case to December 10, this year.
