First Two  babies At David Umahi Teaching Hospital Get N6m From Ebonyi Govt, Named After Umahi And Wife

The Ebonyi state government has donated N6 million to the first two babies born at the David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital, Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area of the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that both babies, a male and a female, were named after Governor David Umahi and his Wife, Rachel.

The Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Orji Uchenna Orji announced this Tuesday while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the state Executive Council meeting.

Orji said that both babies were presented to the Exco as their birth marked the beginning of high quality healthcare services at the hospital.

“It also confirms the landmark achievements and this administration’s commitment towards excellent healthcare for Ebonyi citizens.

“The first baby, a male, was born on January 18, 2023 while the second baby, a female, was born on January 21, 2023.

“The Exco approved a cash donation of N3 million to each of the babies,”.

The Commissioner noted that the EXCO received a report from David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences, Uburu on its students’ sterling performances in medicine and surgery.

“EXCO acknowledged such brilliant performances and made donations to the best three students in the discipline.

“Maryanne Agbom from Ebonyi LGA who is the overall best student received N1 million.

“Divine Nwachukwu from Onicha LGA who placed second received N600,000 while third-placed Christian Ogbonna from Afikpo North LGA, received 400,000.

“The EXCO also approved N65 million for school fees of indigent students at the David Umahi University of Health Sciences Uburu.

“This is to enable them to complete their study of medicine and surgery in the university,”
