Following the declaration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as president-elect in the early hours of today by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), a pressure group, Citizens Unite for Democracy (CUD), is calling out its members and other Nigerians to embark on mass rallies across the country today.

A statement headlined ‘Urgent Notice’ issued this morning and made available to The Frontier says, “Nigerians, especially lovers of credible elections, who are resident in Abuja and its environs, are invited to urgently converge this morning of 1st March, 2023 as from 6am at the Unity Fountain, Maitama, Abuja for a powerful Solidarity Assembly and Mother of all Mass Rallies to demand for a credible 2023 election in Nigeria”.

CUD is similarly going on mass rallies nationwide tagged ‘OCCUPY INEC’ in all the 36 States of Nigeria, for people outside Abuja and its environs.

According to the group, the mass protests will continue “until INEC accedes to the demands of Nigerians for the cancellation of the Presidential elections and a fresh credible election conducted”.

The full statement reads:

“Dear Compatriots,

“Please be notified that all Nigerians, especially lovers of credible elections, who are resident in Abuja and its environs are invited to urgently converge this morning of 1st March, 2023 as from 6am at the Unity Fountain, Maitama, Abuja for a powerful Solidarity Assembly and Mother of all Mass Rallies to demand for a credible 2023 election in Nigeria.

“Similarly, the ‘OCCUPY INEC’ Mass Rallies nationwide are hereby directed to continue in all the 36 States of Nigeria, for those outside Abuja and its environs, until INEC accedes to the demands of Nigerians for the cancellation of the Presidential elections and a fresh credible election conducted.
