A socio-cultural Igbo organisation, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, had called on President Bola Tinubu to expedite action and re-open Seme Border, saying this would trigger economic boom across the zones of the country.
This was as the group urged Tinubu to deploy all measures within his presidential confines to end the perceived persecution of the Igbos in Lagos and other South-Western states, saying this was the only way to confirm to the international communities that he believed in one Nigeria.
The Secretary-General of the group, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, said this in a statement, on Thursday.
The statement read, “Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has commends President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the re-opening of the Seme Border for vehicle importation and calls for more promising governments policies that will better the lives of many Nigerians.
“Ndigbo appreciate such promising policies that will boost economic development, create revenue for the government and have favorable impacts on the lives of Nigerians, than political appointments that will not translate into no economic benefits for Ndigbo.
“The realities on the ground implies that Igbos need promising policies and infrastructural developments for the South-East from the Federal Government, than political appointments.
“President Tinubu should halt the perceived persecution of Igbos in Lagos State and other South-Western states supposedly because of the alleged Igbo allegiance to Labour Party. Ndigbo have learnt their lessons and are now more confident and convinced that President Tinubu’s policies will favor them and other Nigerians unlike his predecessor.
“We have come to terms that President Tinubu came prepared to restructure Nigeria and for the betterment of Nigerians’ welfares. Igbos have reversed their stances after seeing that Mr. President hit the grounds running from the first day in office.”
