A group with the hashtag #FREENONSONKWA# has called for the release of a popular Radio Presenter in Owerri, the Imo State capital, Nonso Nkwa Uba, who was reportedly abducted on Thursday morning.

In a statement Thursday evening, the spokesman for the group, Steve Osuji, said Nonso was abducted by masked men after his programme on Radio.

The statement:

“Courageous radio presenter and compere, NONSO NKWA UBA was reportedly kidnapped this morning by masked men in Owerri.

“He was abducted this morning after his programme at OZISA FM RADIO, Owerri.
Ozisa, probably the most influential radio station in Imo State is owned by the Catholic Diocese of Owerri.

“NONSO NKWA who has a large audience base and followership for his unique manner of presentation.

“NONSO NKWA believed to be at loggerheads with officials of state due to his no-holds-barred analysis of political issues and government affairs.

“Exactly a year ago, NONSO NKWA had cried out that his life was in danger (see below). He accused the government of Gov. Hope Uzodinma of threatening his life. NONSO NKWA had reported extensively, the alleged brutish killing of about a dozen Imo youths in Awomanma by state-owned Ebubeagu Security Network (ESN).

“We appeal to the Imo State government to move swiftly and ensure that no harm befalls this ebullient Imo youth who represent the conscience of the people.
Nonso Nkwa must be freed immediately!
