Anambra Legislators Urge Soludo To Encourage Technical Education

The Anambra State House of Assembly has passed a motion calling on the executive arm of government to take steps towards encouraging more technical education in the State .

The call was made during debate in a motion sponsored by member representing Anaocha constituency II, Chief Ejike Okechukwu.

The law makers unanimously agreed that technical knowledge drives the world and is capable of reducing the level of crime in the society if well pursued.

The sponsor of the motion, Okechukwu, noted that the state can achieve technological breakthrough by encouraging younger ones to learn technical subjects in schools.

Okechukwu who stated that designated technical colleges were not as many as secondary Schools in the state , noted that if the education system gradually shifts from theory based to skill based, classical technical revolution will be experienced in that area.

Supporting the motion, the member representing Njikoka Constituency II, Mr Jude Akpua described the idea of encouraging the young ones to embrace skills as timely, noting that it will reduce the level of crime in the society when it is introduced in more schools across the state.

In his submission, the member representing Aguata constituency I, Mr. Anayo Okpalaeke observed that there was already an educational revolution in the state under the Soludo led government aimed at ensuring that more youths are engaged meaningfully.

While noting that there were about 266 schools in Anambra state, Mr Okpaleke said that there will be a total turn around if twenty percent of the schools were turned into technical colleges.

Mr Kingsley Udemezue of Idemmili North constituency said If the present government starts the introduction of technical education in primary schools it will transform the state, reduce crime, improve job opportunity and grow the economy.

The majority Leader of the House, Mr Ikenna Ofodeme noted that the state was already doing things in that direction by introducing one youth two skills program which is exposing many young people to learning various skills.

He underscored the importance of technical education to the growth of every youth and encouraged the government to do more in that regard.

The member representing Ihiala constituency I, Mr Jude Ngobili and the Member representing Nnewi North constituency, submitted that when technical education is properly introduced in school curriculum, it will result in the discovery of new technicians which no doubt are necessary for nation building.

Also speaking in favor of the motion, the Member representing Anambra East Constituency, Mr Obi Nweke and his Awka South I counterpart, Mr Henry Mbachu while recalling how pupils of the olden days used to do hand work in schools, said introducing it back in primary and secondary schools is the way to go.

The Speaker of House, Somtochukwu Udeze, commended the Governor for his friendly education policies so far.

He emphasized that the establishment of more technical Education colleges in the state will reduce crime and improve the societal values of the people.
