The Honourable Commissioner of Human Development and Poverty Eradication, Dr. Malachy Agbo, has sought to synergize the Neighborhood activities of the Ministry with the Nigerian Police.

He expressed this during a recent courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police Enugu State, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu at the State Police Command.

In an introductory speech, he emphasized the need for collaboration between the Neighborhood Watch Groups and the Police in order to maximally achieve security goals in the state.

Hon. Agbo also stressed the need to establish properly structured correspondence between the Police and the Ministry especially in regard to Neighborhood Watch activities.
He deemed this communication structure critical in order to ensure that only validated information, as well as personnel would be involved in whatever interaction that would exist between the Ministry and the Police.

He stated therefore, the need to establish clearly identifiable and verified correspondence on Neighborhood Watch through the ministry to eliminate every form of ambiguity in dealings between the Ministry and the Police.

In his words “The role of neighborhood Watch can not be overemphasized in the provision of security in our various communities. For the economy to strive, there must be adequate security of life and property. The present administration led by HE Dr. Peter Mbah, will not leave any stone unturned in ensuring that the state is secured. In achieving this objective, the neighborhood Watch’s role is paramount.
But they cannot do it alone. There should be a synergy between the Police and the neighborhood Watch. We are here to strengthen the ties. We want the collaboration and cooperation between the two and other security formations to ensure that our state is secure. ”

In response, the Police Commissioner thanked the Honourable Commissioner and his team for the visit and assured him of the willingness of the Police to work together with the Neighborhood Watch Groups and Associations in the state.
He described the Neighborhood Watch Groups as extremely valuable to Police operations, in view of the grassroot services which they provide.

CP Uzuegbu concluded by guaranteeing Hon.Dr. Agbo that the Ministry would enjoy full cooperation from the Police in the state at all times.
