The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to President Bola Tinubu on Community Engagement (South East) Chioma Nweze has assured the south east zone of adequate representation in the disbursement of conditional cash transfer to 25 million poor families in the country.

Nweze said that people of the zone will be judiciously captured in the ongoing
verification of National Social Register for the disbursement of the conditional cash transfer.

The president’s aide was speaking to newsmen in Abuja after a collaborative meeting with the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu in her office.

She noted that her visit was to express readiness to collaborate with the Minister in her efforts to actualize the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu.

“I commend you for reaching out to rural communities in Oko Agbon, Adogbo, Migbewhe, Makoko, Sogunro and Apollo villages in Lagos State in ensuring that the national social register reflects those with the greatest need.

“The national social register
was compiled by each of the 36 states and the FCT by targeting teams and enumerators engaged by state governments and overseen by the ministry of planning in each state.

“The ongoing verification flagged off last week by the ministry of humanitarian affairs, seeks to purge the national social register of “ghost beneficiaries”.

“This is by ensuring that genuine poor, needy and vulnerable Nigerian families will be the real beneficiaries of the conditional cash transfer,”.

Nweze appealed to state governments, LGAs,
traditional institutions, community heads, Women and youth leaders in the south east zone to identify with the ongoing verification.

“This is by ensuring that only the deserving poor and needy families are verified as captured in the register for accurate data,”.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Betta Edu, pledged that those who were captured would be checked to know if they deserved to be on the register or not.

“Areas that were left out will be covered as the federal government will empower the households in terms of their businesses, livelihood, education and other areas.

“These families should be able to pay fees for their children, improve access to social services, subsidize their daily transportation cost, enhance spending power to provide for basic health care needs, job creation etc,”
