Aisha Bura Becomes New NAWOJ President, Defeats Incumbent Ladi Bala

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, now has a new executive committee to pilot its affairs for the next three years.

The Committee is headed by Aisha Ibrahim Bura who clinched the position of National President defeating the incumbent Ladi Bala alongside every candidate in her line up

The Chairman NAWOJ 2023 Electoral Committee, Michael Ikeogwu who declared her winner of the election on sunday, said the margin was a clear picture that the female journalists desired a change of administration at the National level.

Ikeogwu announced that Bura polled 498 votes to defeat Ladi who got 381 votes.

Other candidates elected were Lilian Ogabu Okonkwo who became Deputy National President with 521 votes while Waslia Ladan got 437 votes to become National Secretary. Aisha Cole was elected Assistant Secretary with 498 votes.

Others were Fatima Rasheed, National Treasurer, Jemila Chinwe Abubakar National Auditor, Ifeoma Aka emerged unopposed as Financial Secretary while Amaka Agbo was also elected unopposed as Vice President South East (Zone C).

The election process which took place at Miriam Babangida Women Development Center Central Area Abuja was monitored by some members of the National Executive of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) including the national President Chief Chris Isiguzo.

Our Correspondent reports that the delegate conference that produced the new Executive attracted NAWOJ delegates from the 36 states in Nigeria including the Federal Capital Territory.
