Nwifuru, Isiguzo And Others To Grace Ebonyi NUJ Press Week

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi state, National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Chief Chris Isiguzo are among important personalities expected to grace the 2023 Press Week of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Ebonyi State Council scheduled for Thursday, November 16th, 2023.

Council Chairman, Comrade Samson Nwafor said in a statement that the event scheduled to take place at the Dr Sam Egwu Press Centre, Abakaliki would also have the Speaker of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Moses Odunwa and Deputy Speaker,  Chinedu Onah, in attendance.

Also expected at the event are all federal and state lawmakers of Ebonyi extraction, including the Senate Deputy Chief Whip and Senator representing, Ebonyi North Senatorial District, Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi; in attendance, the Senate Committee Chairman on Information and National Orientation, and Senator representing, Ebonyi Central Senatorial District, Senator Kenneth Eze and  member representing Ezza South/Ikwo Federal Constituency, Chinedu Ogah. 

“Political party leaders including the Chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC), Ebonyi State Chapter, Chief Stanley Okoro-Emegha is expected to be present at the event.

“The National Vice President of NUJ, zone C, Chief Ifesinachi Emmanuel; the Zonal Secretary, Mr Ezenwa Adiuku, and all NUJ officials from the South East zone shall all be in attendance.

“Honourable Commissioners, SSAs, SAs as well as Principal Officers of Ebonyi State government Media veterans will be in attendance.

“Captains of industry, members of the academia as well as all friends of the media both within and outside Ebonyi State, are also invited to the occasion,” the statement read.

Nwafor spoke further on the significance of the annual event.

“It is a period practicing journalists take stock of their operations, to know how they have faired in the year under review.

“It affords us the opportunity to underscore how our operations have impacted positively or otherwise on the society and brainstorm on how best to improve and move forward for the betterment of the society.

“It is also a period we invite our friends from all walks of life to dine and wine with us, encourage and advise us where necessary”.

The chairman noted that the theme of this year’s Press Week, ‘Attitudinal Change and Responsible Journalism’ was chosen  in view of the alarming decline of ethical journalism amongst media practitioners.

“The Council strongly believes that with Dr Odicha Ude, being the Keynote Speaker at the event,  tangible results would be achieved in the area of moral rejuvenation and revitalization of our attitudinal change for a better society.”

“Preparations are on top gear to ensure that NUJ in the state holds one of the best Press Weeks in its history, as we call on all lovers of the media to be part of the event”.
