The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State,  Aderemi Adeoye, has vowed that the Command will hunt down and bring to justice the killers of  Nanka Ward Chairman of Young Progressive Party (YPP), Chief Joe Ezenwegbu.

Ezenwegbu was allegedly killed where he was holding a political meeting with regard to a rerun election in the area.

Commissioner Adeoye condemned the killing in strongest terms describing the killers as cowards who have murdered sleep.

A statement by Police Spokesman, Tochukwu Ikenga, indicated that detectives were  already working on vital clues to unmask the perpetrators.

“They might think they have committed a perfect crime and that they would get away with it but they delude themselves.”

The Command re-assured all law abiding citizens especially in Nanka not to be afraid but to join hands with the Police in bringing the murderers and their sponsors to justice.

In a related development, the Police Command in Anambra State has debunked  stories trending on social media  that Umunze in Orumba South Local Government Area is the Headquarters of Eastern Security Network, ESN,  and that the Police regard the town as a No-Go-Area

According to DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, while sympathizing with a kidnap victim who was allegedly held for four days in the area, it is important to let the public know that the claims attributed to the man is false and baseless.

“The public will recall that the Police-led Forward Operating Base in Aguata just last month smashed the insurgents Camp at Ogbunka near Umunze, rescuing three kidnapped victims including a Priest; recovering nine stolen Vehicles and three Pump Action Guns and arresting three of the criminals. So how can anyone claim the Police described Umunze as a no-go area?

“The Divisional Police Headquarters in Umunze is functioning at full capacity and the Police continue to discharge its responsibilities to the people in the area.”

Ikenga acknowledged that the Police is however aware of insurgent activities to the south of Umunze in a neighbouring State noting that collaborative effort is ongoing to root them out of the place.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, wishes to assure the good people of Anambra State that their safety remains the most important priority of the Police Command and this is permanent,” he concluded.
