River State Gov’t Reiterates Continued Enhancement Of Corps Members’ Welfare

The Rivers State government has reiterated its commitment to continue enhancing the welfare of corps members posted to the state.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara gave the assurance on Tuesday in a message to the swearing – in of 2023 Batch C stream 1 corps members posted to the state at the NYSC permanent orientation camp, Nonwa Gbam-Tai.

In the message read by the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Office, Government House Port Harcourt,  Hamilton Amadi,  Fubara said his administration would remain steadfast and resolute in ensuring their security and welfare at all times.

“My administration is committed to providing the enabling environment for corps members to discover, harness and fulfill their God-given potentials.

“We will also pursue the continuity and consolidation agenda in keeping to the social contract with the good people of the state.

“This will be, working in synergy and collaboration with the NYSC in order to uplift the lives of youths”.

The Governor commended the Management of the NYSC for its visible efforts in nation building, as well as commitment to improving operations of the scheme.

In an address of welcome, the Rivers State NYSC Coordinator, George Mfongang informed the corps members that they have pivotal roles to play in the nation’s quest to deepen the foundation of democracy.

“Corps members as educated youths and the beacon of light to the nation, are uniquely positioned to turn the fortunes of the nation around positively in all sectors.

“You should see your mobilisation and participation in the NYSC as a rare privilege which must be utilized judiciously for your individual and national development”.

Mfongang , among other requests, appealed to Gov. Fubara to consider the payment of state allowance to the corps members to cushion the effects of the harsh economic realities in the country.

The Oath of Allegiance was administered on the corps members by the the Chief Judge of the State represented by Justice Sylvester Popnen.

A total of 1,755 corps members made up of 881 males and 874 females were sworn in at occasion.
