NUJ Mourn Fallen Enugu Firefighter

The Nigeria Union of Journalists, Enugu State Chapter has commiserated with the Enugu State Fire Service on the death of one of it’s workers, Engr Chigozie Ugwu.

Engr Ugwu was at the head of firefighters that controlled a fire outbreak at Market Zone B ,Enugu Motor Spare Parts, Coal Camp, on Wednesday. He died shortly after the operation.

In a message signed by Dame Ifeoma Amuta, State Secretary, the Council described late Ugwu as a gallant soldier.

“The Nigeria Union of Journalists Enugu State Council led by Comrade Sam Udekwe sends heart felt condolences to the Chief Fire Officer in the State, Engineer Okwudili Ohaa, the entire Enugu State Fire Service and Ugwu family on the demise of a gallant Senior Fire Officer, Engr Chigozie Ugwu.

“Engr Ugwu lost his life on Wednesday 13th December while discharging his duty during an inferno at Industrial Market Zone B ,Enugu Motor Spare Parts, Coal Camp.

“NUJ notes the dedication and commitment to duty of the deceased and other fire fighters and prays for God’s continuous strength and protection to all the fire fighters in the state.

“The Union also sympathises with other motor spare part dealers and traders whose shops and wares were destroyed by the fire outbreak.

“We pray for timely intervention and compensation for the victims.
“The Union joins the state Fire Service to advise people to be extremely careful with electrical appliances, burning bushes and while using gas especially at this harmattan season.

“We pray God to grant the soul of Engineer Chigozie Ugwu eternal rest rest , Amen”.
