The newly deployed State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Anambra State Command, Olatunde  Maku has charged officers overseeing various formation of the Command to cage and dominate their areas of responsibility against crimes and criminality.

He gave the charge in his maiden meeting with Area Commanders, Heads of Departments and Units, Divisional Officers, Formation Commanders held at the State Headquarters Awka.

While acknowledging  the goodwill exhibited by Officers and men since his arrival,  Maku expressed satisfaction with the conduct of some personnel, but , however, said he would not tolerate indiscipline in any form, including lateness to work , indiscriminate posting of official matters in the social media and improper dressing.

In statement signed by  Edwin Okadigbo, the PRO of the Command, Maku said he has fair knowledge of the Command challenges noting that they were surmountable. Nevertheless, he reaffirmed that his mission as the State Commandant was not to undo what had been done by his predecessors but to seek to improve the fortunes of the Corps.

While asserting that superintending Officers would be held accountable for any deviant behavior of their subordinates , he warned that necessary measures would be meted out on defaulters.

“We have been empowered to work for the masses, provide them with adequate security and restore their confidence in the NSCDC. So, I expect everyone to bring ideas and best practices that will help to reposition the corps in order to achieve its mandates “ he said.

He disclosed that he would soon resuscitate the Civil Defence Officers Wives Association (CDOWA) and establish monitoring and evaluation unit to ensure compliance of officers and men in line with the standard operating procedures of the Corps across the State.

Describing intelligence gathering as the hub of proactive policing, Mr. Maku charged officers and men to spread their tentacles to all the nooks and crannies of the state, obtain actionable intel for necessary proactive measures to mitigate crimes and criminality in the State.
