The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) over the weekend received one of the largest container vessels at the Lekki Deep Seaport. The vessel, MAERSK EDIRNE, which arrived the seaport on Sunday was navigated by experienced and well equipped Pilots of the NPA measure 367m in length with a breadth of 48.2m and a Gross Registered Tonnage GRT of 142,131metric tonnes and a Dead Weight Tonnage DWT of 147,340 metric tonnes consisting of 3,376 metric tonnes total cargo onboard.
While receiving the Vessel on Sunday, the Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority NPA, Mohammed Bello Koko commended the Hon. Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, HE Adegboyega Oyetola for his support and endorsement of the Authority’s initiatives and investments in employee upskilling and equipment renewal.
According to the Managing Director, the support has made this milestone of the agency seamlessly achievable.
The authority had in the past also received the largest commercial vessels in the country “MV Stadelhorn” and “MSC Maureen” at Onne Port and TinCan Island Port Complex respectively.
