Governor Charles Soludo has approved the suspension of the traditional ruler of Neni, in Anaocha Local Government Area, His Royal Highness, Igwe Damian O. Ezeani for conferring chieftaincy award on Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, representing Anambra South Senatorial zone in the National Assembly in Abuja.

The suspension which is contained in a letter No. MLGCCA/HC/2022/T/025/001/103 dated 8th January, 2024, was signed by Hon. Tonycollins Nwabunwanne, Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs.

The State government accused the traditional ruler of breaching the code of conduct for traditional rulers which bared them from giving award to individuals not from their community without obtaining clearance from the traditional ruler of the awardee.

The letter which was copied to the Commissioner of Police Anambra State and Director Department of State Security advised Igwe Ezeani to desist from carrying out further activities as traditional ruler of Neni until further notice.

The suspension letter also demanded from him reasons why his certificate of recognition would not be withdrawn.

It will be recalled that few days ago while celebrating his annual festival, the traditional ruler conferred on Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah an award for the security apparatus he put in place in Anambra South which has assisted the Police in arresting kidnapper’s and curbing of criminal activities in Nnewi and environs.
