A Former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi state, Barr. Silas Onu has expressed confidence of winning the Ebonyi South senatorial zone bye-election scheduled for February 3, 2024.

The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio had decared the seat vacant following its vacation by the occupier, Engr. David Umahi who was appointed Minister of Works by President Bola Tinubu.

Onu, who is aspiring to replace the former Ebonyi state Governor, said he was confident of victory based on his competence and popularity in the district and state.

The legal practitioner said his motivation stems from innate desire to provide services to his people.

“The district has been poorly represented in the past and I will offer a better alternative to the people.

“I am not boastng but I will beat any candidate presented whether from Onicha or Ohaozara Local Government Areas.

“I am connecting with the people, the voters and not planning to rig or falsify results”.

He noted that effective representation goes beyond giving people motorcycles, bags of rice among others every festive season with people dancing for such person.

“The people’s interest must be advanced at the center as lot of things can be attracted from the center to the people.

“There are lots of ways one can promote the people as a good senator can promote the well-being of civil servants, artisans etc”.

Onu noted that he was running based on competence and not zoning even though Ohaozara LGA has never secured the ticket in the PDP.

“I see the whole of Ebonyi south as my district so the thoughts of zoning should be banished for us to have real elections.

” People will vote and votes will count in this senatorial election as it will not be about party but about competence.

“I don’t have political godfathers, I have always been independent and that was what created problem for me when I ran for the state party Chairmanship.

“Those who had godfathers felt they could control me so they came and scattered things during the congress.”
