The African Cup of Nations, AFCON, kicked of yesterday in
Côte d’Ivoire with the home team sending signals that they are hosting to win.
It took the Elephants only minutes to draw the first blood against Guinea Bissau in a match dominated by the home team.
Spurred by an enthusiastic home crowd, Seko Fofana scored the first goal in the fourth minute with an assist from captain Franck Kessie.
Piling up pressure against Guinea Bissau, the efforts of the Elephants were rewarded in the 58th minute when Jean-Philippe Krasso finished off a well crafted effort.
Guinea Bissau came in stronger later in the match calling Cote d’ivore’s goalkeeper into action, but the Elephants held on to win 2-0.
With the win, Cote d’Ivoire tops Group A, ahead of Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea’s encounter on Sunday afternoon.
