Edo Governorship Election: Big Parties Produce Candidates

At the end of their primaries in Benin weekend, three major political parties in Nigeria, the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the Labour Party (LP), have elected their candidates ahead of the September 21, governorship in Edo state.

The All Progressives Party, APC, elected Monday Okpebholo (Edo Central) as its Governorship candidate.

Chairman of the poll,
Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu announced that
Okpebholo polled a total of 12,433 votes to defeat Dennis Idahosa who polled 6541 votes.
Both candidates are members of the National Assembly. While Okpebholo is in the Senate Idahosa is in the House of Representatives.

On Thursday, Asue Ighodalo emerged as the standard bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, after polling 577 votes to beat five other aspirants.

Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State who was Chief Returning Officer announced Ighodalo as the duly elected candidate.

For the Labour Party, LP, the ticket was clinched by a former National President of the Nigeria are Association,
Olumide Akpata.
According to the Deputy Governor of Abia State, Ikechukwu Emetu, who was the returning officer, Akpata polled 316 votes.
