The House of Representatives has voted to name the National Assembly Complex in Abuja after former Speaker, Ghali Umar Na’Abba.

In a motion to this effect during plenary, Thursday, Aliyu Madaki, (NNPP-Kano), said Na’Abba was an influential Speaker of the House between 1999 and 2003.

He said the former Speaker was known for his courage, dynamism and outspokenness in his pursuit of legislative independence.

“Na’Abba, as Speaker, embarked on a number of measures to ensure the independence of the legislature, which included but were not limited to profound scrutiny of the budget framework,” he said.

Adopting the motion, the House resolved to honour Na’Abba, by naming the National Assembly Service Commission Complex after him before referring the matter to the Senate for concurrence.

Na’Abba died in September last year at age 65.
