POLICE TO ARRAIGN SUSPECTED RAPIST OF 15 YEAR OLD SCHOOL GIRL IN ANAMBRA STATE

Anambra State Police Command has concluded plans to arraign one James Innoma, the suspected rapist of a 15 year old girl at Ado Girls Secondary School, Onitsha, in court on 29th of March, 2024.

Tochukwu Ikenga, the PPRO of the Command disclosed this when Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh in the company of the Chairman House Committee on Education at the Anambra State House of Assembly, Anayo Emmanuel Okpaleke visited the State Criminal Investigation Department to get update on the rape case.

Ikenga thanked the Anambra State Ministry of Education for being proactive in reporting the case to the first responder, the Inland Police station, Onitsha when the incident happened before it was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department where further investigation was conducted.

He also appreciated Governor Chukwuma Soludo for providing a special court through the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare where gender-based violence cases are tried.

He noted that during interrogation, the victim revealed that she was sent on errand by her parents, when the suspect took advantage of her.

Ikenga revealed that when the police received the case, they took the victim to the hospital where series of tests were conducted which established that indeed there was defilement.

The suspect, according to SP Ikenga, confessed to the crime during interrogation.
