An Ebonyi State indigene, Celestine Onele, is seeking to add his name in the Guinness Book of Records, hoping to achieve a feat on cloth – ironing.

The marathon commences with the process on Monday, 22nd April, 2024.

Onele, an Electrical Engineer from Ezza South Local Government Area of the state, told newsmen on Sunday in Abakaliki that he is pursuing his Master’s Degree at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State

The record seeker said he had gotten approval from Guinness for the 150 hours marathon cloth- ironing with rules that must be strictly adhered to.

“Adherence to these set of rules is paramount to break the existing record held by Garric Standard of the United Kingdom.

“I like cloth-ironing from childhood and this made me desire to break the record which Standard is currently holding for ironing cloths for 100 hours.

“Many individuals who attempted to break the record didn’t get the acknowledgement from Guinness based on the fact that there were so many rules they tampered-with.

“I will therefore be the new holder of the record if I surpass the feat of the current holder as I am inspired to do different things to put my name on the map.”

He noted that he submitted application to Guinness World after a rigorous research and after submitting the application, it takes lots of inspection from different expertise.

“With God’s special grace, I received a mail from Guinness after 18 weeks that my application to attempt breaking it’s record has been approved.

‘A specific guideline was approved for me after three weeks and there are so many rules in the guideline which when tampered-with, the person will not be recognised.

“Contained in the rules for instance, is the stipulation that I have 30 seconds to pick materials and whenever I finish ironing a material, I have 30 seconds to pick another material.

“I also have only five minutes to rest after 1 hour, among others.”

Onele appealed to Ebonyi people for support which will come chiefly by making their clothes available for ironing among other forms of support.

“The venue for the cloth-ironing is the Real Exclusive Parlour, Abakaliki and I am mentally and medically prepared for the challenge.”
