Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District at the National Assembly, has offset the accumulated school fees of medical students from the district, totalling N6.7m at the Alex-Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike Ikwo (FUNAI), Ebonyi State.

Nwebonyi announced this Tuesday at his hometown Mbeke-Isieke, Ebonyi Local Government Area of the state while interacting with newsmen on his N40m educational intervention to indigent students in the district.

The lawmaker said that no medical student should be allowed to drop out from school due to the accumulated fees as they are at the clinical stages of their studies.

“This intervention is included in the N40 million offered to students from the district, studying in various institutions of higher learning.

“The students offering law received N150,000 each, medical students received N150,000 while post graduate students received N200,000.”

The Senator noted that the motive behind the intervention was to “guarantee the tomorrow of youths” in the district.

“The greatest investment is the one made on human beings as the challenge of social vices being witnessed presently is due to non-education of youths.

“Youths that engage in social vices might not do so if they were educated.

“I urge the beneficiaries to utilise the funds judiciously because diverting them means diverting their future,” he said.

Nwebonyi said that he would continue bringing democratic dividend to his people as he had been close to them even before being a Senator.

“I have been building houses for the less privileged and that might be the reason God has been lifting me from one level to the other.

“The construction of a 6km of road in the area has been captured in the budget and the challenge of electricity will soon be sorted out.

“I want to assure the people of continued delivery of democratic dividend to make them happy.”

The Senator had also distributed over 100 sewing machines, refrigerators among other empowerment items to members of his district.

He was treated to a civic reception by his community on April 5 which was graced by Governor Francis Nwifuru.
