The Great Enugu Women Association Worldwide says it aims at uniting and empowering women for the peace, social, cultural and political development of Enugu state.

The National President of the group, Mrs Nkechinyere Ani said in an interview on Friday that the move was to make women impact on Enugu and add value to the people of the state.

Ani said the association encompasses all women from the state either as indigenes or married to Enugu men.

“The association started four years ago with headquarters in Lagos as we also reach out to our sisters worldwide.

“Our aim is to support and empower them economically and socially and make them forces to be reckoned with

“We have strongholds in Abuja, Port Harcourt and some northern states and coming up in Abakaliki and other cities.”

The national president noted that the association plans to gather in Enugu for its August Meeting to unite the women and forge a common front.

“We want to use the opportunity to thank Governor Peter Mbah for all his good works in Enugu; in infrastructure, human empowerment, education, health among others sectors.

“We want to commend him especially on his strides on gender inclusiveness, ensuring that a very high percentage of women participate in governance.

“We are happy the way he has united the state, ensuring that past leaders and stakeholders hitherto overlooked by past governors are given due recognition.

“He has provided adequate security across the state, making Enugu an investment destination where people want to be visit and reside.”

She noted that the August gathering will provide the association, the opportunity of reaching out to women, offer them health talks, lectures on their roles on the family and society as a whole.

Ani also hailed the impact made by Former Senate President, Anyim Pius Anyim on the association, noting that it was indebted to him.

“He is presently assisting in the arrangements to have audience with the governor.

“He is an epitome of humility, resourcefulness, a strong voice for women inclusivity in governance and gender equality.

“He will be eternally remembered for stabilising the Senate leadership which has been sustained till today and providing an endearing panache to governance as the Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation.”
